Midwinter, by Ash Hebden (aged 8)

Midwinter,

it is time

for blowing wind.

Time to

walk

through

the fresh smell.

Time to

start a fire

and enjoy

ashes burning.

You listen to

hail fall

from

the sky.

It is cold.

Wear

a down jacket.

When rain

comes

you feel

sleepy

and listen to

the bare trees

say

‘goodnight’.

It is

cloudy

all day

and

all night.

When it’s dark

you see

stars

come out.

Then you get

warm and

comfortable

on the

bench.
